Preschool Information for 2009-2010
By Rex Bollinger
February 16, 2009
Since our school districts have voted to consolidate into one district the transition/temporary board of education for the new Doniphan West School District have decided to have a preschool for the 2009-2010 school year. This preschool is open to all eligible students. The following pages are a survey to determine the interest of parents to have their children attend preschool at the current Highland Elementary school and determine the number of children to plan for the preschool.
Following is some information about the program:
- Depending upon enrollment, we
should have sessions two to three days per week for 3 year olds if
there is interest and for 4 year olds three to possibly four days
per week. Sessions will be half days.
- At present we do not plan to
charge a general monthly program fee for students that live in the
newly consolidated Doniphan West school district.
- There will be a general
monthly program fee for out of district students if accepted.
Out of district students will be considered for acceptance if space
is available and if approved by the school administration.
Priority will be given to students who have siblings who have
attended or are attending school within the Doniphan West School
district and plan to attend kindergarten in the new Doniphan West
School District. This fee will be established later once
total program costs are determined but will be reasonable.
Out of district students who are accepted and who qualify for state
at-risk program funding will not be charged this fee by law if
program funding is received by the new Doniphan West School
District.
- There will be a small
one-time consumable materials charge for the entire school
year. This will be waived if the students qualify for the
state at-risk program since funding is generated.
- Unless meeting financial
guidelines, all families will be expected to pay a small quarterly
fee for milk and snacks. This fee will be waived if the
family meets the financial guidelines for free lunches.
- Regular bus transportation
will be limited and provided to those three and four year olds who
have an older sibling attending school in the Doniphan West Schools
who rides the regular bus route. No midday routes will
run.
- There will be a highly
qualified teacher for the pre-school program along with a teaching
assistant if needed. Staffing will provide for individual
attention for the students enrolled.
- For more information, contact Rex Bollinger, Superintendent, at 785-442-3280 or 785-359-6525.
If you have a child that is eligible by age for the program, please complete the survey and return to the district office at Highland USD 425 or Midway USD 433. Thank you.
