DW Journalism State Qualifiers

Thirteen Doniphan West journalists qualified for the Kansas Scholastic Press Association state contest by placing at regionals in Manhattan on Feb. 21. For regional competition, students were able to compete in on-site contests or to prepare an entry ahead of time for carry-in categories. Placing with their carry-in entries were Cheyenne Davis, third in advertising and third in feature photography; Savannah Stevens, honorable mention in advertising; Danielle Rush, third in headline writing; Alesha Miller, honorable mention in headline writing; Brittany Keever, second in infographics; Kayla Schmitz, honorable mention in yearbook page design; and Shayln Fritch, third in sports photography. Placing in the on-site contests were Taylor Twombly, second in editing; Morgan Rush, honorable mention in editorial cartoon; Danielle Rush, first in editorial writing; Anja Kubeneck, honorable mention in editorial writing; Malia Sisk, honorable mention in feature writing; Jordanne Miller, first in newspaper sports writing; Katylin Blevins, second in yearbook sports writing; and Taylor Twombly, third in yearbook sports writing. The state competition will be Saturday, May 3 at Lawrence.
